Spartanburg, SC — Showtime Legacy Theatre
Company, a bold new voice in regional Black theater, proudly presents the world premiere of BACKBONE, a searing and poetic family drama by Johnny Sizemore and Kerrick Greer. The production will debut at The Chapman Cultural Center on April 17 & 18, 2026, with two power-packed evening performances at 7:00 PM.
Set in 1995 Memphis, Backbone takes place inside a fading Black-owned auto shop—where ghosts hum through the concrete and a family fights to protect the legacy of a matriarch erased from history. Through fierce confrontations, buried secrets, and one explosive discovery, Backbone asks: Who really built the legacy, and who gets to claim it when it’s time to collect?
