August Wilson's The Piano Lesson

Set in Pittsburgh in 1936, The Piano Lesson tells the powerful story of a Black family torn between honoring their past and building a better future. At the center of the conflict is a treasured family piano, carved with the faces and history of their enslaved ancestors. When Boy Willie wants to sell the piano to purchase land once owned by his family's former enslavers, his sister Berniece refuses to part with it.

As buried secrets and painful memories resurface, the family must confront the true meaning of inheritance, identity, and legacy. August Wilson's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama asks a haunting question: How do we move forward without losing the very history that made us who we are?
